A traffic stop on a car with a stolen license plate early Tuesday resulted in the arrest of a Story man after marijuana, drug paraphernalia and counterfeit meth were found in his possession.
Justin Wayne Sartin, 32, was taken into custody shortly after 6:30 a.m. and charged with felony counts of possession of a counterfeit substance with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by six to 20 years, and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver and theft by receiving, punishable by up to one year in jail.
Sartin, who also had a warrant for failure to comply, was being held on $14,000 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Hot Springs police Officer Thomas Plummer was northbound in the 100 block of Park Avenue when he spotted a green Chevrolet Tahoe and a computer check showed its license plate had been reported stolen.
The car turned onto the 100 block of Ramble Street and parked and Plummer made contact with the driver, identified as Sartin, and took him into custody after discovering the warrant for his arrest.
A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a small bag of marijuana, 6.1 grams, in the center console, two glass smoking pipes in the front floorboard, an orange smoking bong behind the passenger seat and two bags of a white crystal substance and digital scales in a Corona bag.
The small bag, 2.4 grams, and the large bag, 20.4 grams, of white crystal substance tested negative for meth. After being read his rights, Sartin reportedly admitted the white crystals were "a fake substance made to look like meth."
