BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Botetourt County Libraries are showing families that reading doesn’t just have to happen at home.
The library system set up a Story Walk at the Botetourt County Sports Complex at the beginning of the month.
It features short stories that families can read together as they walk around the track.
But instead of just pictures and pages, the library system added fun activities in between that challenge readers to things like jumping jacks and adds fun facts about Botetourt County.
“We know that some kids are not super into reading and if they think that they have to read it becomes a chore to them, so we thought we would break it up so they get this early literacy feature but then they also get to have some fun and challenge mom and dad,” Eagle Rock Library Branch Manager Jaime Duval said.
The Story Walk has a special code for people participating in the library system’s Summer Reading Challenge that allows them to earn tickets and enter raffles.
The library system said they hope to add more of these Story Walks throughout the county in the future so that different communities can read together in a fun way.
