After another 10 mass shootings or so in the last two weeks, including eight dead in Atlanta and 10 of our neighbors dead in Boulder, a couple of things will happen:
(1) Republicans will extend well-wishes and prayers,
(2) Republicans will fail to enact any meaningful gun control,
(3) Republicans will become angry at Democrats for attempting to enact gun control and instead blame the mental health crisis in our country,
(4) Republicans will also not advance any bills or money in support of mental health care. Undermining their claims about this being about mental healthcare,
(5) Republicans will accuse Democrats of “capitalizing on a tragedy“, “rushing to judgment“, or some other slogan but failing to acknowledge that Dems have been trying to protect lives through gun legislation for decades,
(6) Nothing will happen at the national level and in a little while another mass shooting will happen,
(7) Gun sales will spike.
Does anyone in Weld County feel like we have made progress on this issue since the shootings at Columbine HS in 1999?
I’m a proud firearm owner. I want my rights protected, but I also DEMAND someone in leadership do something to support firearm legislation that protects lives and I DEMAND immediate financial support for mental healthcare.
