Amy Schumer Shares Her Surgery Story To Raise Endometriosis Awareness - Vanity Fair

solokol.blogspot.com
The comedian and actress is recovering from a hysterectomy and appendectomy.

“Let’s start over, ‘cause I’m chewing.” Even when she is recovering from surgery, Amy Schumer has time for jokes.

The comedian and actress hit her Instagram on Saturday with an image and video taken directly from her hospital room. “If you have really painful periods you may have #endometriosis,” she wrote in the caption. In the video, she described how her doctor found “30 spots of endometriosis,” which had attacked her appendix. There was also a lot of blood in her uterus, which was removed, she noted.

The morning after the procedure, she said she was experiencing soreness and some gas pains. However, it was the person taking the video, presumedly husband Chris Fischer, who ripped out a huge belch. (Schumer’s annoyed “babe!” leads one to believe this is a common occurrence.)

Endometriosis affects between two and 10 percent of menstruating people between the ages of 25 and 40, according to the Johns Hopkins Medicine website. The most common symptoms are painful periods, pain during sexual intercourse, and excessive bleeding. It often leads to infertility. The cause for the condition is unknown, there is no cure, and those who suffer from it don’t always get the medical attention and care they deserve

Schumer’s upload comes at a time when many celebrities are trying to break this taboo by revealing their own struggles, including Daisy Ridley, Gabrielle Union, and Lena Dunham.

Padma Lakshmi, who also suffers from the condition, responded to Schumer’s Instagram, writing, “thank you so much for sharing your endo story. Over 200 million women worldwide suffer with this. Hope you feel better soon!”

Debra Messing also chimed in with, “oh my goodness, 30?! So happy they are gone and you won't have that pain anymore.” Savannah Guthrie called her “a warrior mama,” and Selma Blair wrote, “I am so sorry. Rest. Recover.” Killer Mike offered up a prayer emoji and blue heart.
