The new poster for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie brings back the cheese touch joke. Penned by cartoonist Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid are the journals of teenager Greg Heffley, who stocks up the pages with simple drawings, silly adventures, and his point of view on challenges he faces at middle school. Released in 2004, Diary of a Wimpy Kid became a literary success and was adapted into a film that starred Zachary Gordon as Greg. Last year, Disney+ announced that the popular young adult series was getting a new animated adaptation.
Slated to debut exclusively on the Mouse House’s streaming service on December 3, Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be set in a 3D animated style, nodding to creator Kinney’s original version. Disney+ released the first teaser poster, which shows Greg Heffley’s stick-like legs, a moldy slice of cheese, and the tagline, “New School. Old Cheese.” Referencing the Cheese Touch - the titular game that states one with the Cheese Touch is a social outcast until one passes on the Cheese Touch - the poster unveils a new look at the film. Check out the poster below:
The 3D animated adventure of Diary of a Wimpy kid will arrive on Disney+ at the height of the holiday season. Directed by Swinton Scott, Diary of a Wimpy Kid will join the live-action films already available on Disney+. The live-action Wimpy Kid films were a success; however, presenting Greg Heffley in 3D animation form, with his spindly arms and cheese touch joke, will offer a fresh take at the pages from Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
