As players journey through the psychological horror of The Medium, they’ll find several hidden secrets if they keep their eyes peeled. These secrets help build on the main story of the game and begin to tell their own. An example of a hidden secret in The Medium is the Mentor’s Diary notes scattered throughout the Niwa Resort. There are seven of these notes that come together to tell a side story.

By gathering all seven Diary notes, players will receive two achievements in The Medium: Guiding Light and Devouring Darkness. Players must keep a close eye on their surroundings to find them, as they would to find and unlock other secrets and collectibles in-game.

Each Diary note must be picked up and added to inventory to be considered ‘found.’ Once all of the entries are found and their story put together, players can continue to search for more secrets in the game, such as the hidden postcards throughout the Niwa Resort, eerie drawings, memory shards, or echoes. Each of these secrets introduces more lore to The Medium.

The locations of all Mentor's Diary notes in The Medium appear below:

An Apology: Players can find this entry in the bathroom on the second floor of the Niwa Resort. It is in the sink along with an empty medicine bottle.
A Very Special Boy: This page can be found in the dayroom of the resort. It’s in the normal world of the dual worlds available in-game on the table beneath a windmill statuette.
Throwing Away Greatness: This page is also in the dayroom and in the normal world. Players should examine the boxes where there is a drawing of a horse. The note is there with it.
A Well of Inspiration: Also in the dayroom, this note can be found on a chair at the side of the room.
A Method to Madness: This page can be found in the dayroom of the Niwa Resort, but this time in the globe section. The note is lying on a desk in the atlas room.
Growing Apart: This page is on a desk in the staff room of the resort. This room must be opened with a key found elsewhere.
A New Home: This last note is found in the room players can enter by exiting the dayroom and descending the stairs. It’s on a wooden desk in the corner of the room.

Those players less interested in collecting Easter eggs and lore or gathering as many achievements as possible can also get through The Medium without necessarily picking up all these collectibles. It is totally possible to get to the ending of The Medium's story without the need for these elements. However, as with many other games in its genre, the secrets and clues create a more lasting and memorable experience for fans.
