The end of the day might just be the hardest time to parent.
You’ve parented all day.
Maybe you’ve shouted, maybe you’ve been calm, you’ve certainly made at least two meals that your kids decided they didn’t want to eat.
Evening is the time when your willpower has given up the ghost and it’s unlimited screens for the whole household.
But then comes bedtime, and your kids are demanding a story.
A made-up story.
You just want to collapse on the sofa with a glass of wine, and one dad’s clever hack makes that possible.
“It’s bedtime, the most soul-crushing part of the day,” dad-of-two Gavin began the TikTok.
“You’ve got your kids and they want you to read a book. But you know what? You’ve read all the books and you’re sick of it. Not today kid. Not today.”
“So you pull out your phone and you say to Chat GPT… you tell that robot… hey write me a story for my four-year-old and six-year-old.”
But it’s not just any story.
“I want it to be five minutes long, ask your kids for some characters – they’re going to say Elsa, or whatever – and you add some yourself.”
“And then you say I want it to be in this fantastical location that’s filled with candy and butterflies, and then whatever your kid is struggling with at the moment, you slip that in there,” he said.
“That’s right, you include some underlying messaging about not being a jerk to your brother, or something like that.”
The dad said the resulting story was good enough for his kids, aged four and six, and it had his agenda added in.
To boot, his kids felt like they’d contributed to the story.
Job well done, right?
