Overwatch 2 has revealed the origin story of Illari, the new support hero introduced to the game. Blizzard has brought a new era to Overwatch 2 with the Season 6 update. Among the content part of the new season, Overwatch 2 players can explore Illari's abilities and learn more about the character.
Titled "Invasion," the arrival of Season 6 marks Overwatch 2's exit from the Early Access phase, and the start of what Blizzard defines as the "full live game operations phase." In this new season, Overwatch 2 players can participate in the new Flashpoint mode, which mixes the concepts of Control and king-of-the-hill gameplay styles. Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 players who purchased the Invasion Bundle can play all-new story missions. Overwatch 2 also brought a list of general changes, hero balance adjustments, and a new free co-op event in which players must stop Null Sector from taking over the Omnic Underworld.
Overwatch 2 revealed the origin story of Illari, the new support from Peru. In an animation posted on Overwatch 2's YouTube channel, Illari introduces fans to the Inti Warriors, a group that protects its people using the power of solar energy. Illari reveals she has a power that can help her people, so she begins training to become an Inti Warrior. On the day Illari is initiated to become an Inti Warrior, an explosion happens and kills all the other Warriors. Overcome with guilt, Illari ends the video vowing to make up for her part in the tragedy. Previously Overwatch 2 confirmed Illari's abilities, revealing the sun as an element of her kit.
Illari's arrival offers a more aggressive take on the Support role for Overwatch 2 players. She is also the second Support hero in a row released by Blizzard, who introduced Lifeweaver to Overwatch 2 players in Season 4. In the comments, players praised the animation and the lore created for Overwatch 2's new character. One of the users also commented on how well-contextualized Illari's lore is, explaining how the sun is one of the most important elements of Peruvian culture. The same comment also notes that Peru has a religious holiday called Inti Raymi in honor of the sun god Inti.
To play with Illari, Overwatch 2 players must purchase the Season 6 Premium Battle Pass. In addition to having immediate access to the new support hero, Overwatch 2 players can unlock 80 levels of rewards. One of the rewards included in Overwatch 2 Season 6 Battle Pass is Ana's new mythical skin, which transforms the sniper into an advanced Null Sector combat bot.
