Doug Williams's Story Being Turned Into Movie - Barrett Sports Media

As the fight for social equality continues nationwide, a timely biopic was announced featuring Doug Williams, the first Black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. According to Deadline the movie is being produced by Packer Productions. The company’s previous works include Night SchoolRide AlongGirls Trip and many others.

Williams’ story is one that probably hasn’t been told as much as it should be. After being the first Black quarterback selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, Williams soon became the lowest-paid starting QB in the league, even trailing some backups. Following a stint in the USFL, Williams returned to the NFL with the Washington Redskins where he earned MVP honors while leading them to victory in Super Bowl XXII.

“There are no better individuals than Will Packer and James Lopez to really tell my story,” said Williams, currently the SVP of player development for Washington. “Their unparalleled success in moviemaking ensures that my journey will be told with the upmost [sic] authenticity. I am very excited to be working with Will Packer Productions.”

Following his playing career, Williams was named to Washington’s Ring of Fame and Tampa Bay’s Ring of Honor. The former quarterback was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
