italian artist naomi vona has turned a fashion magazine into ‘selling lies’, a personal and controversial visual diary. the idea was to create a communication bridge between the meaningless ads and her personal perspective about the fashion industry while defining herself as an ‘archival parasite, with no bad intentions’. apart from vibrant colors and patterns, the key elements for her work are her subconscious and life background. acid tears

‘selling lies’ is a visual project born in 2017, when the london-based artist naomi vona decided to participate in the instagram challenge of the 100 days project. in her projects, naomi fuses different techniques such as photography, collage, and illustration, altering vintage and contemporary images to generate a new interpretation of the original shots.

the final result emerges as a personal and controversial art project. this project continues as an art class called ‘from fashion ad to protest’, where the artist encourages her students to produce their art journal utilizing fashion magazines. during the event, naomi teaches her layered technique, providing advice and tips on manipulating existing images.
