MANISTEE — The City of Manistee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday on Monroe Street in Manistee.
Upon arrival, Manistee City Police as well as on-duty fire crews found a two-story residence that had fire coming from the back of the structure, according to a news release from Fire Chief Mark Cameron early Sunday morning.
“Crews found heavy smoke and high heat upon entering the structure,” reads the release in part. “Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire with no damage to adjacent houses.”
There were no injuries and the release states that a single occupant was out of the house before the department arrived.
“The occupant stated fire accidentally originated in the living room area,” the release said.
The interior of the house had heavy fire, smoke and water damage, the release states.
Departments were on-scene for a little under three hours.
The Manistee City Fire Department was assisted by the Filer Township Fire Department, Manistee Township Fire Department, Manistee City Police, Manistee Department of Public Works water department and DPW Director Jeff Mikula.
