MMA-fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano has fallen under fire for an Instagram story she posted on Tuesday night.
Carano, who currently stars in “The Mandalorian” on Disney+, posted a story in which she compared people’s hatred for members of different political parties to Nazi Germany’s hatred of Jews.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” the post reads. “Because history is edited, most people don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Variety reports how, after removing the post in response to the backlash, Carano posted follow-up stories including one which stated, “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is ****ing wild.”
Those on social media took to Twitter on Wednesday to flood the platform with the hashtag #FireGinaCarano. This is not the first time Twitter has come out against Carano, as she has previously caused controversy in other instances including when she listed her gender pronouns as “boop/bop/beep,” something people regarded as a mockery of the trans community.
Yahoo! News notes that Carano later apologized for this incident. “I didn’t know [why people put pronouns in their bios], but I do now,” Carano explained. “I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all of you who choose to.”
Carano and her representatives have yet to respond to the backlash.
