Former MMA fighter and actress, Gina Carano, has been fired from “The Mandalorian” after receiving backlash for an Instagram story she posted on Tuesday night.
Carano, who played the character Cara Dune on the show, had published a post that compared the hatred of Jews in Nazi Germany to that of hating someone from a different political party today.
“Jews here beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” the post read. “Because history is edited, most people don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Carano later removed the post from her story amidst the backlash, replacing it with a quote which said, “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief you hold is ****ing wild.”
Those on Twitter took to the platform to create a #FireGinaCarano hashtag, accusing the star of anti-Semitism and pushing alt-right conspiracy theories.
Others brought up the fact that this was not the first time Carano received backlash for social media posts; the Texas native once put the words “boop/bop/beep” in one of her profiles, which many regarded as a mockery of the trans community.
Yahoo! News states that Carano later apologized for this incident, stating, “I didn’t know [why people put pronouns in their bios], but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all of you who choose to.”
Deadline reports how Lucasfilm released a statement on Wednesday night after the #FireGinaCarano hashtag gained traction, announcing that Carano “is not currently employed by Lucasfilm” and calling her posts “abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Carano has yet to make a statement of her own.
