Photo by Mike Lamb Rylan Adam, from Canada, and Hannah Bennett, former Marshall resident, met on the Ghent rolle bolle court five years ago and are getting married in Octorber. Both played in the rolle bolle tournament Saturday during Belgian American Days.
Hannah Bennett can tell you the exact spot she was standing when she met Rylan Adam in 2015.
“We met on number one,” she said, referring to the bolle alley on the Ghent court.
On Saturday, Adam and Bennett were both standing on that same rolle bolle court in Ghent playing the game they love. The engaged couple were competing in the rolle bolle tournament during Belgian American Days.
They are getting married in the community of Treherne located in Manitoba, Canada, in October — on a rolle bolle court, of course
Adam, who is from Canada, will tell how it all started.
“My dad and uncle had been coming down (to Ghent to play in rolle bolle tournaments) for years. I first came down in 2015,” Adam said. “We (Adam and Bennett) started talking and she ended up moving up here (Canada) to be with me.”
Bennett offered a few more details.
“We became friends for a whole year talking role bolle. Then in 2016 we started dating,” she said.
Both believe it’s the common interest in rolle bolle that brought them together.
“We wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for rolles,” Adam said.
Bennett eventually moved to Canada to be closer to Adam.
According to Bennett, she told everybody she was moving to Canada to attend college to pursue a medical career. But it was really for a different reason.
“It was love. We moved in together probably four months later,” she said.
Bennett now works in an accounting business with her future husband. She said she loves her new career.
“I work for him. It’s great. It’s a family business and it’s just been amazing,” she said.
Saturday’s rolle bolle tournament ended up being a reunion for Adam and Bennett and her family because of the COVID-19 pandemic restricted traveling between Canada and Ghent.
“It’s been 17 months since I have seen her family. She hasn’t seen her family in 11 months,” Bennett said.
Will there be a rolle bolle match after saying their vows?
“She said she wanted to bolle against each other. Closest to the peg gets to keep the last name,”Adam said.
“I said no because she will beat me.”
