In the end, it was much ado about nothing.
But leading up to last week’s MLB trade deadline, the rumor mill was working overtime when it came to the future of Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story.
The two-time All-Star will be a free agent after the 2021 World Series and many believed the Rockies would trade Story, rather than watch him walk after the season with nothing more than draft pick compensation in return.

Among the teams who talked trade with the Rockies were the New York Yankees. But Rockies manager Bud Black told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM Thursday that the 28-year-old Story is just fine with staying in Colorado for the stretch run.
“We had conversations in spring training. We had conversations during the early part of the year. We had conversations a couple days before the trade deadline. We had a conversation after the deadline. I’m not so sure Trev is upset as people think. I think that his quote or quotes were more maybe out of frustration. Maybe emotional based on what he was hearing. Not so much from the Rockies personnel, but from the outside noise, he might’ve thought it was a given, based on the noise. But he’s fine. I mean, Trev’s a pro. You know, he’s still a Rockie. Mentally he’s in a good spot. And I think you’ll see the next couple of months the true Trevor Story show up and perform.”
