Emma Watson certainly has a life worth writing about in a diary. She was just 9 years old when her life changed overnight. After being cast as Hermione Granger, she became a household name. She would spend more than a decade starring in and promoting the Harry Potter movies. After making millions, she earned a degree from an Ivy League institution and discovered her passion for activism in addition to continuing her acting career.
But while Watson has lived a rather extraordinary life, she has no immediate plans to release a book about her life. Though she’s a big fan of using writing to help process her thoughts, she can’t imagine sharing them with the masses. In an interview with Rookie Mag, the Beauty and the Beast star got candid about the odds of her releasing a memoir.
Emma Watson is skeptical about writing an autobiography
“I think your thoughts are so much less frightening when they’re tangible, when you can see them on a page in front of you,” Watson shared. “And it’s less narcissistic and egotistical than releasing your own autobiography, which would be my worst nightmare. Maybe one day I would write some things out, but not for a while. Not for a while.”

But if Watson ever decides to release an autobiography, she’ll have plenty of material to pull from. Especially, if she’s saved the many diaries she’s had over the years. In the aforementioned interview, the Noah alum admitted that she has far more journals than the average person.
The ‘Harry Potter’ alum keeps 10 personal diaries
“I don’t know what it is,” Watson shared. “I’ve always kept and collected things, and I’ve always been interested in the idea of diaries. I must have 10 different personal diaries: I keep a dream diary, I keep a yoga diary, I keep diaries on people that I’ve met and things that they’ve said to me, advice that they’ve given me. I keep an acting journal. I keep collage books.”

But why does Watson have so many different diaries? The actor shared that they’ve become a safe place of creative freedom through which she can explore. “They’ve given me a place where I can try to figure myself out, because those kinds of ideas feel too personal to put out into the public or even discuss with anyone else,” the Little Women star shared. “It allows me to get things out of my head and work them out in a way that feels safe, which is really helpful. I can kind of play around with things.”
How college and journals have served as safe spaces for Watson
Of course, diaries weren’t the only place where Watson felt free to experiment. Watson also credits her time at Brown for honing in on what mattered to her. “That’s been a big part of what school has meant to me,” Watson shared. “I got famous very young, and [Brown] gave me a safe zone where I could figure things out without people projecting onto me their ideas of what they wanted me to be, or thought I should be.”
Considering Watson has one of the most recognizable faces on the globe, we can see why she needed safe spaces to just be herself. And while she may have no intention of writing an autobiography, if she does, we’re sure fans would be interested in reading excerpts of her past and present diaries.
