Chandigarh Police have arrested an auto driver, identified as Sonu, a resident of Sector 41 for allegedly raping an NRI woman at a small hotel in Chandigarh.
Police said that though the driver has been arrested, they have found several holes in the story of the NRI woman so far and the same was being verified.
Sources said that preliminary probe so far has revealed that the NRI woman had previously also lodged rape cases against certain people, some of whom were later acquitted.
Police said that the NRI woman has a dual citizenship.
A case was registered at Sector 36 police station.
A police officer said, “The auto driver, Sonu, has been sent to judicial custody. His statement too has been recorded and is being verified.”
