NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain petitions seeking either stoppage of release of controversial film 'The Kerala Story' or issuance of a disclaimer by the filmmaker that the movie is based on fictional accounts and not a true story.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha doused the charged arguments from counsel Vrinda Grover, Ejaz Maqbool and Mohd Nizamuddin Pasha seeking urgent intervention of the SC to stop vilification of the entire Muslim community by the film and said, "The resort to Article 32 to rush directly to the SC on everything is unwarranted. We are not a Super HC. Our HCs are manned by seasoned judges, who can take a call on these matters."
When Grover said the film is scheduled for pan-India release on May 5, the day the Kerala HC is scheduled to hear the petitions, the SC said the petitioners can move the HC immediately and request it to advance the hearing to May 4.
