What would you do if you received a mysterious invitation to attend a special meeting? It didn’t come in the mail, it just appeared amongst your belongings. You have no idea who sent it or who else might have received an invitation. Would you throw the letter away or would you show up?

Five New York strangers receive such an invitation and all five of them show up at the Bower Room of the Fifth Avenue Literary Society Library. Because of loneliness or simple curiosity, they continue to meet every week to tell their stories. Their lives are changed forever.

Jett is a literature professor at a private New York collage. He is recently divorced and is beginning to second guess his decision as he knows he is still in love with his ex-wife. He spends most of his time teaching classes and making lesson plans. He is also trying to complete his own degree and hasn’t yet finished his dissertation. He has chosen to write about his favorite author, but many rumors have been circulating that the author maybe a fraud. If he continues with his research, he may discover the truth that would shatter the image of this author that he has had since childhood. It could also cost the college thousands of dollars in grant money.

Ed is the oldest of the group. When he received his invitation he believed that this story society would be made up of professional writers that would help him put onto paper the story of his true love, his beloved wife Esmerelda. Ed is a superintendent in the apartment building where he has lived for years, since before his daughter was born. Ed’s daughter is a television reporter and tries to get Ed to move in with her and her family so she can look after him. But he likes his apartment and the people that he helps that live there. He shows up every week at the meetings with an old typewriter looking for help and inspiration to write his love story.

Chuck is an Uber driver and travels all over the city. He is currently estranged from his ex-wife and hasn’t seen his twins in months. He knows that he had done wrong when he discovered his wife cheating on him. But after a couple of nights in jail, all he wants is a second chance with his kids. He attends the meeting of the Fifth Avenue Story Society every week simply because he is lonely and is looking for some good people to call friends.

Coral is all about business. She is the head of a large cosmetic company that her grandmother started many years ago. She was recently engaged to a prince and was trying to plan a perfect fairy tale wedding and run her company from overseas. When Coral had a change of heart and called off her wedding, the media went crazy and hasn’t left her alone. Now she’s discovering that her business may be in jeopardy and she blames herself.

Finally, there is Lexa. She is an executive assistant to a young entrepreneur, Zane, that created a business selling gourmet hamburgers. Together they took a Nebraska kid’s dream and turned it into a thriving business. Lexa knows her job inside and out and does many of the behind the scene jobs that Zane doesn’t even know about. But her success has come at a cost. Lexa was a young happily married bride when she started working for Zane, but after so many late nights and endless hours at the office, her marriage suffered. Now she is divorced and wants nothing more than to be promoted to Zane’s CEO. She, too, attends the society meetings as a distraction for her personal life.

As these five meet each week they try to find a common connection as to why they have been brought together. While they can’t seem to find a reason they do become friends. As they confide in each other and share their secrets, they discover things about themselves. With new friends, their lives all take a turn for the better.
