Three sisters have created a story time trail in Sunnycrest Park. These sisters aren't even old enough to drive. Justyce Doyle, 9, Augustyne Doyle 6, and Chazaray, 5, worked for months on the project.
It involved planning, presentations, fundraising and building the signs and story posts. Now the hard part is behind them, the Doyle sisters are excited to put a story up on the one mile trail in Sunnycrest Park.
They needed a project for girl scouts and they wanted to do something for their community during COVID-19.
With a lot of help from their mom, Chaz-Lit Doyle, and businesses in Eastwood, they got the funding they needed. The sisters even enjoyed getting permission from the parks and the mayor before starting their one mile trail.
"We went to one of the Eastwood town meetings. The mayor was there that day that we were showing a prototype and giving away free cookies and he got a cookie. And we talked to him about our idea and he said it was a great idea,” said Justyce.
Now that the story time trail is built, the Doyles had to choose a book to debut on their trail. They selected a book called "Kia" written by J. Washington, a local author. The book helps to support the Kia Foundation, a non-profit in Central New York that provides meals for pets and a pet food pantry. Their book choice continues to show the girls' choice to support their community.
So far the local reaction has been great in community from kids, and even people just walking their dogs.
Positive news in a pandemic, and a great way to get outside and read for kids. And to all their supporters, the Doyle sisters say, "Thank you."
