PENDER COUNTY — As part of our countdown to 2021, Port City Daily is revisiting some of its biggest stories of 2020.

Coming in sixth is the story after the story, when District Attorney Ben David announced New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputy Jordan Kita has been fired.

The week earlier, Kita and a group of individuals that described themselves as a search party went door-to-door looking for a missing girl, who Kita considers his sister. During their efforts, Kita remained in uniform and allegedly stuck his foot in the door of a home while armed.

Later on, Kita and his family explained their side of the story, asking the public to empathize with their situation.
