After Pete Buttigieg was tapped by president-elect Joe Biden for the job of U.S. transportation secretary last week, the former South Bend, Ind. mayor and presidential candidate unexpectedly shared a love story.

“Travel in my mind is synonymous with growth, with adventure — even love,” Buttigieg said when accepting the nomination. “So much so that I proposed to my husband Chasten in an airport terminal. Don’t let anybody tell you that O’Hare isn’t romantic.”

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport promptly added “place of romance” to its Twitter bio and folks on social media began debating whether airports are truly romantic.

Twitter user Richard McKinney is a believer, sharing that he also got engaged at gate B5 (Buttigieg reveals the gate in his book), and even had the gate inscribed on his wedding ring. But Twitter user Keith F. is skeptical, writing: “I worked at O’Hare and you are the FIRST ever to say it is romantic!!! Busy, Yes. Crowded, Yes. People rushing, Yes. Bags lost, Yes. People running late, Yes.”

Whether it happened at Logan International Airport, O’Hare, or someplace else, do you have an airport love story you’d like to share? Perhaps you were proposed to, or surprised in some way at an airport restaurant or near the gate. Maybe your partner took you on a surprise trip or said something really sweet as you boarded a flight. Please share your story with us and it may be featured on Boston.com.
