Here’s a question from a reader concerning a column which mentioned a man named Steve Gorman.
Mia (Gray) King, Fargo, then wrote, asking for the names of Steve’s parents.
“I am curious,” Mia wrote, “because my grandmother was an O’Gorman from McCanna, N.D. (west of Grand Forks). Her father and mother, Davis and Mary O’Gorman, homesteaded in McCanna. They wintered in Grand Forks.
“My great-grandfather Henry King was a real pioneer in the state. He homesteaded around Lakota, N.D. He owned many quarters of land. As an example, he deeded the town of Derrick (in Ramsey County) and several mercantile establishments to my grandfather Harold King and his bride Grace O’Gorman as a wedding present.

“Henry was the first Democratic county chairman for Grand Forks County.
“Harold graduated from the University of North Dakota law school in 1917, practiced in Park River, N.D., then moved to Fargo in the 1940s.
“My father was Gorman H. King Sr. He was a prominent Democrat, as was my brother, Gorman King Jr.”
For help on Mia’s question, “Neighbors” turned to Polly (Pastoret) Musaccia, the daughter of Jim Pastoret, a friend of Steve’s.
“His (Steve’s) parents were Steve Gorman Sr. and Gladys. He had a sister and brother; I think his sister was named Beverly,” Polly says.
“Steve Jr.’s parents owned ‘The Grand’ in downtown Fargo, and they were active in sports. Steve Sr. promoted many events and I believe was part owner of the Fargo-Moorhead Twins (baseball team).
“On the wall of his apartment, Mr. Gorman has signed photographs of famous boxers of the day who visited Fargo, and I believe there also is one of Babe Ruth.”
