The businessman has tapped Charles Harder for a defamation suit against the parent of the Daily Mail.
Less than five days after the Daily Mail turned heads by reporting romance between MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and 30 Rock actress Jane Krakowski, he's filed a defamation suit. In New York federal court, Lindell lodged claims on Monday.
Lindell is represented by Charles Harder, who notably has appeared for Donald Trump in libel actions. Lindell advertises heavily on conservative television and is a Trump die-hard.
The story reported that the romance lasted nine months and that he wooed her with champagne and bottles of different liquor. When the report came out this past Thursday, it lit up social media, many making jokes at her expense. Nevertheless, it's Lindell now in court. To prevail, he'll likely have to show reckless disregard of the truth on the newspaper's part as well as real damage.
The brief eight-page complaint makes the case for "tremendous harm" this way:
"Defendants’ false and defamatory statements about Mr. Lindell have caused tremendous harm to his personal and professional reputation and prospective economic opportunities, as well as causing him significant humiliation and emotional distress. In particular (and without limitation), Mr. Lindell founded the Lindell Recovery Network, a platform that helps those struggling with addiction connect with recovery organizations. Defendants’ fabricated story that he showered Ms. Krakowski with gifts of 'champagne and bottles of different liquor' severely undermines Mr. Lindell’s hard-earned credibility, integrity and character in the field of addiction recovery as well as in religious communities. Mr. Lindell’s ability to succeed in this important effort have been severely impacted by Defendants’ wrongful actions."
