solokol.blogspot.com

With so many different streaming platforms and cable offerings to navigate, choosing what to watch has never been harder. To make things easier, here are our best tune-in tips for the week ahead.

MONDAY DEC. 13

The Voice

It’s the performance finale of “The Voice” with the final five ready to battle it out. Team Kelly Clarkson will be represented by Girl Named Tom and Hailey Mia. Team John Legend will have Jershika Maple in it to win it. If Blake Shelton keeps his winning streak going, it will be either Wendy Moten or Paris Winningham (that headline writes itself if Paris is victorious). Unfortunately, Ariana Grande’s debut season on the show wasn’t a hit and she will not be represented in the finale. The winner will be crowned in another episode Tuesday at 9 p.m.

CTV & CTV.ca, 8 p.m.

TUESDAY DEC. 14

The Future Diary

The Future Diary is a love diary of events that will happen in the future. Two people who have never met before are cast to live out a romantic storyline by following a diary that is handed to them. Their semi-fictional exchange, based on the casts' own words, takes them through an experience that could ultimately influence how they view one another. Will the adventure lead to real romance? A reboot of the legendary romance reality series that made 20 years ago starts from December 14, 2021.

This reboot of a Japanese variety show that ran from 1998 to 2002 sees two strangers live out a romantic storyline by following a “script” in a diary that is handed to them. The strange faux reality takes them through a journey that could actually lead to romance in the end. The original series was a huge hit and we will see if the Netflix treatment can get the world talking again.

Netflix

WEDNESDAY DEC. 15

Survivor

It’s incredible to think that “Survivor” will wrap up its 41st season on Wednesday. The show that is responsible for popularizing reality TV has been criticized for the number of twists it introduced this season. Still, it remains compelling to its loyal fan base and Jeff Probst will hand over another $1 million cheque tonight. This season had the added benefit of a couple of Toronto players to root for in Erika and Shantel. One other point of interest is that this finale could be unlike any other as it’s rumoured that the “reunion” part of the episode was already taped on location and there won’t be an actual live reunion for the cast in L.A. Pick of the week.

Global & StackTV, 8 p.m.

The Masked Singer

It will be a reality rumble as the final episode of “The Masked Singer” airs against “Survivor.” The finale will see the final two singers, the “Group A” winner and the “Group B” winner, perform and unmask in a holiday-themed season finale.

CTV & CTV.ca, 8 p.m.

Foodtastic

Feast your eyes! Disney-inspired foodscapes come to life in #FoodtasticSeries, streaming December 15 only on #DisneyPlus.

Just as two reality shows wrap up, another is about to get underway. Hosted by Emmy Award winner Keke Palmer, this global competition series invites artists to create extravagant scenes and sculptures entirely from food. The show will prove that incredible art can be made from everyday kitchen items.

A Naija Christmas

This Nigerian Christmas film follows three sons on a quest to grant their mother’s Christmas wish of seeing them get married. That means the trio will all have to tie the knot by the big day. The feel-good movie is the perfect for curling up and cosying up as we reach the holiday break.

Netflix

Puff: Wonders of the Reef

While some documentaries are groundbreaking and others are eye-opening, some are just cute. This one definitely can be filed in that category. It follows a tiny pufferfish in a journey through the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Seeing the underwater reef through the eyes of one of its smallest creatures obviously gives a “Finding Nemo” vibe and that isn’t a bad thing. Also, Puff will be voiced by Australian actress Rose Byrne.

Netflix

Station Eleven

This postapocalyptic saga focuses on survivors of a devastating flu. The show spans many timelines as it chronicles the struggle to build a new world. It is based on the international bestseller by Emily St. John Mandel. The cast is led by Vancouver’s own Mackenzie Davis.
