Death and Other Details episode 4 marks the halfway point in the season, and Rufus and Imogene are getting closer to finding Danny’s killer as they are finally able to eliminate suspects. Death and Other Details episode 3 ended on a cliffhanger, with Jules finding Imogene while she was following the suspicious Leila. Death and Other Details episode 4 picks up right where the previous episode left off, providing some answers about Jules, Leila, and who killed Danny.

Throughout the episode, the motivations, secrets, and pasts of the Death and Other Details characters were uncovered by Hilde, Imogene, and Rufus. Notably, episode 4 spent more time with Rahul Kohli’s character, Sunil, the owner of the cruise ship that everyone is stuck on. With just four episodes left in season 1, Death and Other Details is ramping up the suspense as each episode brings the characters closer to solving the murder.

At the end of Death and Other Details episode 3, Hilde discovered that Jules is using an alias and that he has a criminal background. This came as a surprising twist as he seemed to be a trustworthy figure, and his night with Imogene meant that he couldn’t possibly have killed Danny. When it was then revealed that he was wanted in three countries, Hilde turned her focus to Jules, making him the main suspect in her investigation.

Hilde didn't know Jules’s actual alibi, so it’s understandable why she believed he killed Danny, especially with his history. Death and Other Details episode 4 also included a flashback of when Sunil and Jules first met, revealing how he became the ship’s head of security. After Jules saved Sunil from being mugged–likely in a setup–the cruise owner offered him the coveted position, unaware of his criminal past.

10 Hilde Put The Ship On Lockdown

The guests are stuck in different areas

With her prime suspect missing, Hilde decided to put the ship on lockdown, not allowing anyone to leave the area they were in at the time. Tripp, Alexandra, Katherine, and others were stuck on the ship’s deck. Father Toby, Celia, and more were in the lobby. Anna and Eleanor were alone in Eleanor’s hotel room. Since Jules found Imogene at the end of episode 3, she was held hostage by him. This forced proximity in Death and Other Details episode 4 led to some interesting interactions between characters.

9 Anna Suspects Leila Is The Murderer

Anna and Eleanor had been waiting for Celia to join their business meeting in Eleanor’s hotel room when the ship went on lockdown. This left the two exes alone together for a considerable amount of time, allowing them to talk about their past. Eleanor appears to be bitter about the fact that Anna moved on with Leila and never misses an opportunity to take a dig at her.

On the other hand, Anna is very protective of her wife and always does her best to defend her. When Eleanor asks Anna who she thinks killed Danny, it’s revealed that Anna suspects Leila. Though Anna doesn’t say it out loud, Death and Other Details flashbacked to when Anna told Leila about the murder. Her wife was far from surprised and Anna called her out on having been missing from their room at his time of death. Anna has shown she will continue to protect Leila, even if she believes her wife is a murderer.

8 Jules Has Been Stowing Refugees From Ukraine On The Ship

Death and Other Details set Jules’s character up to be a dangerous criminal only to reveal that he took the head of security job to help a family of Ukrainian refugees. Jules had been stowing the family in the ship’s basement, which is why he was there when Imogene was looking for Leila. He planned to smuggle them off the ship when they arrived at their port, but the murder and discovery of his true identity put a wrench in his plans.

Imogene decided to help Jules with his plan and realized that one of the young girl refugees may have been a witness to Danny’s murder. She had been crawling in the vents at the time of his death and had heard a loud scream, presumably from Danny, and the dropping of a heavy object. Imogene interviewed the girl, who described a pair of high heels she’d seen in the room. With Teddy wearing them, she became their new prime suspect. By the end of the episode, with help from Sunil and Imogene, the refugees were able to escape the ship.

7 Llewellyn Was Found In A Closet

After virtually disappearing in Death and Other Details episode 3, Llewellyn was found in episode 4 tied up in a closet during the search for Jules. Since he refused to share what had happened, Hilde had him locked up in a cell on the ship. Hilde was suspicious of Llewellyn, though it was unclear how his being tied up in the closet could have been related to Danny’s murder.

6 Celia Knows About Katherine & Father Toby’s Affair

Celia was unable to make the business meeting with Anna and Eleanor because she’d been stuck in the cruise's lobby when Hilde declared the lockdown. For the first time in Death and Other Details, she interacted with Father Toby, who was also in the lobby at that time. Celia is a character of few words, but when the older woman chooses to speak, she always reveals herself to know more than she may seem.

In Death and Other Details episode 4, this reveal came in the form of Katherine and Father Toby’s affair. Celia not only told Father Toby that she knew about the affair, having looked into the family ahead of their deal, but made her intentions of blackmail clear. Blackmail has been a big theme in Death and Other Details with the mystery surrounding Viktor Sams, which could potentially tie him to Celia and the Chuns.

5 Teddy Is A Dominatrix

Why Llewellyn was tied up was revealed later on in Death and Other Details episode 4. The young witness had mixed up the rooms, and while she thought she’d seen Teddy in Danny’s room, she was actually in Llewellyn’s. By day, Teddy manages the ship, but by night, she’s a dominatrix. Her being in Llewellyn’s room not only gives her an alibi, but it gives him one as well, as they couldn’t have been in Danny’s room at the time of his murder.

4 Anna Cheated On Leila With Eleanor

Anna having time alone with Eleanor in Death and Other Details seemed like a bad idea since she showed up at her hotel room at the end of episode 3. As they reminisced on their past, Eleanor revealed that she’d never really gotten over her ex-girlfriend. While Leila was missing on the ship, Anna was cheating on her with Eleanor. The Collier family has their fair share of secrets and affairs and now Anna can be added to the list.

Whether it was a one-time thing is yet to be seen, but it is almost certain that Leila will not take the news well if it reaches her. This could also affect the deal between the Colliers and the Chuns, as Eleanor's feelings for Anna could impact her decision-making. Whatever comes from their time together in Death and Other Details cannot be good.

3 Winnie Confessed To Murdering Danny

To draw the real killer out, Rufus let everyone on the cruise know that they’d captured the killer–Teddy. The ruse ended up working as it led Teddy’s younger sister, Winnie, to confess to murdering Danny. They had publicly fought in Death and Other Details episode 1, which she claimed is why she killed him. She wanted to teach him, and people like him, a lesson. Winnie knew the details of the murder, saying she’d hidden in the bar cart to get into his room and she'd seen Imogene smash his watch, but something was off.

Winnie seemed too small to be able to kill a man of Danny’s size. Additionally, her motive didn’t appear to add up to the crime committed. Rather, Winnie may have just confessed to murdering Danny to save her sister, whom she was told was being arrested for the crime. Though Rufus revealed at the end of Death and Other Details episode 4 that Winnie wasn’t the true killer, her telling the truth about Imogene stealing from Danny puts her in hot water with Hilde.

2 Alexandra Is Being Blackmailed

Just like Celia blackmailed Father Toby with the knowledge of her affair with Katherine, someone is doing the same to Alexandra. She received an anonymous email in Death and Other Details with pictures of her and Tripp together in his room that would be disastrous for her political career. The attached pictures reveal that someone had cameras set up in the room to spy on them, suggesting there could be cameras in other rooms. Earlier in the episode, she had a conversation with Katherine about remembering her place and all the Colliers had done for her.

The body of the email read, “PUT YOUR STRINGS BACK ON, OR WE RELEASE THESE.” The use of “strings” was an allusion to her being a puppet for the Collier family. Thus, whoever is blackmailing her is likely someone within the Collier family or someone who wants to protect them. The person who sent the email could also be the same donor who had Alexandra send the bar cart to Danny’s room the night of his murder.

1 Leila Knew About Danny & Viktor Sams

After being suspiciously absent throughout the episode once again, Leila came out of hiding at the end and was found by Rufus. He told her that she was safe and that the killer had been found, but she was skeptical, knowing that Winnie’s confession was a false one. Leila told Rufus that they hadn’t caught the killer, but rather “one of his followers,” which is the “closest [they’re] ever going to get” at catching who really killed Danny.

This proves that Leila’s suspicious nature is because she’s been hiding from others, trying to stay out of danger, and picking up on her own clues. People have cast Leila aside as paranoid, but she appears to know more than anyone could have suspected. The cliffhanger at the end of Death and Other Details episode 4 came when Leila told Rufus that she knew about Danny’s true identity, and that before his death, he’d discovered something about Viktor Sams. Leila’s knowledge of Viktor Sams suggests he was involved in her car “accident” as well as Imogene’s mother’s.
