Summary

  • Star Wars has one last chance to continue the story of one key character from Revenge of the Sith in The Bad Batch season 3.
  • The Bad Batch season 2 brought Commander Cody back for the first time post-Order 66, but his fate is unknown after going AWOL.
  • Commander Cody's story is still unresolved and should receive closure in The Bad Batch season 3.

One notable supporting character from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: The Clone Wars has one last chance to complete their story in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3. Taking place in the early years of the Galactic Empire’s reign, The Bad Batch not only continues to humanize clone troopers but also shows their tragic fates after Order 66 and Palpatine’s subsequent autocratic coup. Fittingly, several character and plot threads from The Clone Wars that were left ambiguous following the events of Revenge of the Sith are continued in The Bad Batch.

Characters like Cut Lawquane and Cad Bane have reappeared in The Bad Batch, which explores their exploits in the now-dystopian galaxy. The iconic Captain Rex, who was a major character in The Clone Wars, has appeared in key story arcs in The Bad Batch as well, bridging the gap between Clone Wars season 7 and Star Wars Rebels season 2. Even Asajj Ventress, who originally died in Christie Golden’s Star Wars: Dark Disciple, will return in The Bad Batch season 3, but one clone officer’s story must be concluded in the show’s final season.

Commander Cody's Story Still Isn't (Quite) Complete

Commander Cody, who was once a close friend to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Captain Rex, had appeared in The Clone Wars, but was left with an unknown fate post-Order 66 - until The Bad Batch season 2. Like other clones who unwillingly followed Order 66, Cody gradually overcame the effects of his control chip implant, regretting his actions but continuing to serve the Empire, albeit reluctantly. Following a costly battle with a Separatist holdout on Desix, Cody deserted the Empire, leaving his fate ambiguous. The Bad Batch season 3 now has the best possible opportunity to finish the story of Commander Cody.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 Is The Best Place To See Commander Cody Again

Commander Cody in Star Wars The Bad Batch-1

Commander Cody was endeared to viewers by The Clone Wars, which naturally made his unwilling betrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi heartbreaking. Cody nearly returned in Obi-Wan Kenobi as a redeemed character (with his free will restored), but the idea was ultimately scrapped. Still, The Bad Batch – thankfully – confirmed that Cody overcame his control chip and left Imperial service. Season 3 can and should complete his redemption by having him reunite with his friend, Captain Rex, and perhaps join his clone resistance against the Empire.

Unfortunately, Cody was nowhere to be seen in The Bad Batch season 3 trailer. While the as-of-yet unexplained return of Asajj Ventress may be exciting, it is strange that Cody, of all Clone Wars characters, was not teased as well. Given its clone-centric premise and the still-unknown status of Cody, the iconic clone officer ought to return in The Bad Batch and receive closure for his Star Wars story.
