Josh Woodward is known as the former Albany Airport fire fighter, who defied the odds after being given a 5 percent chance of survival after being admitted to the hospital with sepsis back in 2019.

His story captivated the Capital Region and around the country, as support poured in under term “Woodward strong.”

What You Need To Know

  • Josh Woodward deified the odds, given just a 5 percent chance of survival after hospitalized with sepsis in 2019

  • Now Woodward is sharing his journey of survival, through his music

  • A portion of his proceeds will go towards the Woodward Strong non-profit, set up to help families and first responders falling on hard times

Since then, Woodward and his wife, Chelsea, have turned that slogan into a non-profit helping almost a handful of families, falling on hard times.

But now, Woodward is sharing his story in his own words, in a way never heard from him before.

Woodward’s basement is a reminder of how far his story of survival has reached, as patches from police departments and fire departments from all across the country line the walls. It’s also a reminder of how far he’s come, since he was admitted into the hospital in February of 2019.

“Support is huge, we wouldn’t be anything without the support of people,” said Woodward.

But in that same basement sits a room just for him. It’s a recording studio, in a converted walk in closet, built by his wife, Chelsea.

“I don’t know what everybody else clings to, but I think everybody has something and If I didn’t have music, gosh when I was in high school, I probably would’ve been on a different path - a bad one, with the wrong people and making the wrong decisions. And now, without music, I really don’t know what I’d do,” said Woodward.

It’s a place where he is able shut out the world, and write. It’s what he did growing up, as a teenager, long before his story reached the headlines.

“I would just kind of lock myself in my room to get away from all the stuff that was going on outside of my room, and bury myself into hip albums and writing,” said Woodward.

Now he’s sharing his journey, that 5 percent chance of survival, in his own words. Woodward shared a preview with his new single, Nightmares, under his hip-hop artist title, Anomaly.

“I pursued it as a full-time career a long, long time ago, but now it just means so much more,” he added.

Continuing to put his passions first, and making careers out of what he loves.

“I’m always so lucky, I get to do what I love to do full time, you know? I loved being a firefighter and everyday I would go to work and be like ‘I can’t believe I get to do this, this is the best job in the world.’ And now I get that same feeling with what I’m doing in now,” said Woodward.

With his biggest supporter by his side, Chelsea. She shared his story on the Woodward Strong Facebook page, where Josh’s story was first shared and has nearly 100,000 followers. Now, they’re taking on his new journey, together.

“It’s just really exciting to be doing this together and to show people another side of us that they may have not seen before,” said the father and husband.

Using his music to spread the message of family, faith, and what Woodward strong is all about.

“I really want people to just get hope. That’s the main takeaway, there’s hope. Whatever your situation is there’s some level of hope out there for you,” he added.

Woodward’s his musical journey will also contribute to giving back to the community. Five percent of every dollar made from his music will go towards the Woodward Strong Non-profit Foundation. A new song will be rolled out every week, available on Patreon, and will eventually they will be available on iTunes and your favorite streaming network. More information can be found on the Woodward Strong Facebook page.
