BIG RAPIDS — The Big Rapids Community Library invites teens and adults to enter NaNoWriMo 2020 Short Story Competition.
Residents age 13 and older within the library's jurisdiction may submit entries in two categories:
• Five Sentence Scary Story (due by Nov. 13.)
• 1,000 Words or Less, Make Me Laugh or Take Me on an Adventure (due by Nov 20.)
Winners will be showcased in the Pioneer.

RULES AND CONDITIONS
• You must be a resident of the City of Big Rapids, or from our service area (Big Rapids Township, Green Township, Grant Township, Colfax Township, Barton Township, or Norwich Township).
• You do NOT need a library card in order to submit.
• All work submitted must be original, meaning that you create the work based upon your own ideas. Submissions cannot infringe on third-party rights; that is, copyright isn't owned by another entity. Copyrighted characters are not allowed.
• Submissions should not have been previously published in print or online.
• This competition is open to ages 13 and above.
• One entry per person; per category.
HOW IT WORKS
•. Drop off a physical copy of your short story to the first-floor circulation desk. This must include your full name and contact information.
• A Consent to Publish is required to enter. A link to the form may be found at bigrapidslibrary.org/nanowrimo-2020.
• All submissions must be turned in before the end of the day during open library hours.
Note: The library will be closed until Nov. 5 due to an exposure to COVID-19.
JUDGING
• The judging of all submission will be completed by Library staff and members of the Library Board and Friends of the Library Board.
• The submission will be judged on how well they fit the category and artist merit.
• Winning submissions will be showcased in the Pioneer.
Note to Parents/Guardians: A parent or guardian must review the rules and conditions and sign the Consent to Publish Form in order for the submission to be entered into our contest.
