Our Official HKRT Drag Queen will be in the office reading books geared towards empowering kids (of all ages) to bravely be themselves and accepting of others.
Dogs from our program will be there to get some extra love! And we’ll have popcorn to snack on and coloring sheets of some HKRT dogs too!

Some folks stopped by the Hard Knocks Rescue & Training, Inc. office on Friday to protest our upcoming Drag Queen Story Time with the fabulous Madge D. Ivine. Our event is intended to teach children to love themselves and others just as they are. You may wonder why HKRT has joined forces with the LGBTQ+ community. Our Hard Knocks dogs come with labels and stigmas that often make them undesirable to uneducated adopters. The humans who run HKRT all know what it’s like to be excluded and marginalized as well. We find that the best fit for our dogs are people who can relate to their journeys. Being raised by a gay couple back in the 80’s, I personally know the pain of having to hide the truth of our family. By uniting for a common cause – our love of dogs – we are building a loving and inclusive community for ourselves but also for these “unadoptable” dogs. I will live or die by this quote – “I would rather be excluded for who I include than included for who I exclude.” ALL are welcome to attend our event on June 10. If you cannot be kind, stay home. We don’t need your support.
